Pianist born in Hong Kong, Rachel Cheung is regarded as one of the most sought-after artists in Asia. She has been described as “a poet, but also a dramatist,” capable of making music “among the most sophisticated and compelling” (The Dallas Morning News). She gained international recognition as a finalist at the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, praised for “extraordinarily imaginative” interpretations (Musical America) marked by “bursts of beauty and virtuosity” (Theater Jones), and also received the Audience Award via online voting. A Steinway Artist, she continues to build a strong international reputation through her elegant stage presence and refined, sensitive performances across three continents.

Rachel has performed with leading orchestras such as the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Jerusalem Symphony, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Sydney Symphony, London Chamber Orchestra, and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, collaborating with conductors including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Jaap van Zweden, Leonard Slatkin, and Mark Elder.
She is also active in the play-direct practice: after winning the Prix du Jury in 2017 at the Play-Direct Academy with Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 alongside the Orchestre de chambre de Paris, she conducted and performed the same concerto with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in March 2019, and was later invited again as a jury member in 2019.
She has given recitals in prestigious venues such as the Auditorium du Louvre in Paris, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Steinway Hall in London, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Philharmonie de Paris, and many others across Europe, the United States, and Asia.

As a chamber musician, she has collaborated with internationally renowned artists including soprano Anna Netrebko, tenor Yusif Eyvazov, violinist Joshua Bell, and other leading performers.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Rachel graduated with highest honours from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts under Eleanor Wong, and later studied with Peter Frankl at the Yale School of Music, where she received the Elizabeth Parisot Prize. She has also won prizes at major international competitions including Leeds, Chopin, Vladimir Horowitz, Gina Bachauer, and Geneva.

In 2019 she was named “Artist of the Year (Music)” by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. In 2025 she founded the Rachel Cheung Music Academy in Hong Kong, aiming to build a vibrant musical community and inspire future generations of musicians.
Her first concert DVD was released by VAI in 2007, while her international debut album Reflections, dedicated to Frédéric Chopin’s Preludes, was released by Universal Music.
