Gile Bae
Pianist
Gile Bae, born in 1994 in Rotterdam (Netherlands), made her debut as a soloist at the age of five. At six, she was admitted to the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where she studied with Marlies van Gent. She later continued her studies with Maestro Franco Scala at the International Piano Academy of Imola, graduating in 2017.
From a very young age, she won numerous first prizes, including the International Steinway & Sons Piano Competition, the EPTA International Piano Competition in Belgium, the Maria Campina International Piano Competition in Portugal, the Princess Christina Competition, and the Stichting Jong Muziektalent Competition in the Netherlands. At the age of fifteen, she won first prize at the International Steinway & Sons Piano Competition, representing the Netherlands at the international Steinway & Sons Festival and performing at the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. Following these successes, Gile decided to stop participating in competitions.
She has performed for the Dutch Royal Family and for Nobel Prize laureates. In 2018, in Vienna, she was named a “Bösendorfer Artist.” At the invitation of Sir András Schiff, she took part in the Klavier Festival Ruhr and the “Building Bridges” project during the 2020/2021 season, performing in various European venues, including De Singel in Antwerp, the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn, and the Konzerthaus in Berlin.
Gile Bae has performed with numerous orchestras in the United Kingdom, Austria, Oman, Hungary, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, and Italy. Among the most notable events, she participated in the 25th anniversary of the “Incontri col Maestro” International Piano Academy of Imola under the direction of Vladimir Ashkenazy. She has also performed with principal players of Teatro alla Scala in Milan in the presence of the President of the Republic in Malta at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, at the Teatro Coccia in Novara, and at the Teatro Claudio Abbado in Ferrara with the Italian National Symphony Orchestra (RAI) conducted by Fabio Luisi. She has also performed at the Royal Opera House Muscat (Oman) with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, returning to the same venue in January 2024 for a recital and a masterclass.
In 2025, Gile Bae performed in concerts across the Middle East and Italy, followed by a recital tour in Central and South America in August.
In 2019, she recorded Bach’s Goldberg Variations for the Foné label. In 2023, she released an audio and video album with the Arcana label dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach’s piano concertos, in collaboration with the Archi di Santa Cecilia of Rome. In 2025, she released an album with Universal Music, produced by Grammy Award winner Michael Fine.
