Alexey Bogdanchikov
Baritone
Russian baritone Alexey Bogdanchikov, after studying at the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow and at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center, began an international career performing in some of the most important European opera houses, working with conductors such as Kent Nagano, Daniel Oren, Renato Palumbo, Jesús López-Cobos, Stefano Ranzani, Donald Runnicles, Emmanuel Villaume, Jan Latham-Koenig, Francesco Ivan Ciampa, and Johannes Fritzsch.
Alexey Bogdanchikov won first prize at the 57th International “Voci Verdiane” Competition in Busseto in June 2019.
Since September 2015, he has been a member of the ensemble and a leading soloist at the Hamburg State Opera, where he made his debut in the role of Rodrigue in the French version of Verdi’s Don Carlos, conducted by Maestro Renato Palumbo. In Hamburg, he has performed many leading roles, including the title role in Eugene Onegin, Prince Yeletsky in The Queen of Spades, Count Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro, Enrico Ashton in Lucia di Lammermoor, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Figaro in The Barber of Seville, Marcello in La bohème, Valentin in Faust, Silvio in Pagliacci, Paolo Albiani in Simon Boccanegra, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Frank/Fritz in Die tote Stadt, among others. In April 2017, he received the Dr. Wilhelm Oberdörffer Prize from the Hamburg State Opera, awarded to the best singer in the ensemble.
Since 2014, Alexey Bogdanchikov has also been a member of the Novaya Opera in Moscow, performing at the Kolobov Theatre in his signature roles.
Italian theaters also represent a significant part of his career. He made his debut in Bologna in 2011 as Wolfram in Tannhäuser, and has appeared frequently on Italian stages: as Paolo Albiani in Simon Boccanegra in Piacenza and Modena alongside Leo Nucci, as Belcore in L’elisir d’amore at the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona alongside Francesco Meli, and as Morales in Carmen at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
At the beginning of his career, during the 2011/2012 season, he was part of the International Young Artists Program at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he performed roles such as Ping in Turandot, Morales in Carmen, and Maximilian and the Captain in Bernstein’s Candide.
Among other important competitions he has won are the ARMel Opera Festival and Competition 2010 (Szeged, Hungary), Debut 2012 (Weikersheim, Germany), and Neue Stimmen 2013 (Gütersloh, Germany). In 2013, he represented Russia at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition.
