Onofrio Claudio Gallina

Conductor

Onofrio Claudio Gallina was born in Palermo (Italy) in 1965. From a very young age he began his concert career as a pianist and conductor, distinguishing himself in several national and international competitions.

After graduating in piano, he furthered his studies under Maestro Bruno Canino and Professor Vera Gornostaeva (at the P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow), and later studied composition and orchestral conducting with Maestro Eliodoro Sollima and Maestro Alessandro Pradella.

He has combined his concert activity both as a solo pianist and as a conductor, performing in numerous Italian and European cities, including the Teatro Massimo Foundation of Palermo, Teatro Bellini in Catania, the International Festival of Ostatkof, Saint Petersburg and Moscow, the Opera of Cheboksary (Chuvash Republic), the Opera of Krasnodar (Russia), the Aguascalientes Symphony Orchestra and Culiacán Symphony Orchestra (Mexico), the Neemrana Music Foundation (India), the Arpeggione Orchestra in Austria, the Palermo Classica International Festival (Italy), the Bilbao Orchestra (Portugal), the Damascus Opera (Syria), the St. Gallen Festival (Switzerland), the Gdańsk Orchestra (Poland), the Taormina International Festival (Italy), and the Schauspielhaus Salzburg (Austria).

At the venues listed above, in addition to a wide symphonic repertoire, he has conducted operas including Verdi’s Aida, La traviata and Rigoletto; Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Don Pasquale, Lucia di Lammermoor and Rita; Puccini’s La bohème and Tosca; Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Bastien und Bastienne and L’oca del Cairo; G. Angileri’s Il sogno di Boris; and Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana.

In addition to this, he has been active as a soloist, chamber musician, and in the fields of Lieder, sacred music, and symphonic conducting.

Since March 2018 he has been a guest professor at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, specializing in Italian opera, where he holds semi-annual 15-day masterclasses focused on the bel canto repertoire.

From 2011 to 2014 he served as artistic director of the “Teatro Luigi Pirandello” Foundation, producing seven opera titles, a tour in India, and several symphonic concerts, collaborating with important international musical figures.

He has also served as a jury member in several international piano and opera singing competitions, including the Moncalieri Piano Competition in Turin (Italy), the Odessa Singing Competition (Ukraine), and the Hariclea Darclée Singing Competition in Brăila (Romania).
