Gergo Borlai

Drummer

Gergo Borlai is a professional drummer, composer, and producer based between Los Angeles and Barcelona, originally from Hungary. He began playing drums at the age of three, and by the age of fifteen he was already active as a session musician and touring artist, collaborating with some of the most successful performers in Hungary.

Over the course of his career, Borlai has contributed to more than 500 albums (as a drummer, composer, and producer). He has won the “Drummer of the Year” award three times, along with two gold records, the Golden Drumstick Prize, and the Fonogram Award for “Jazz Album of the Year 2021.” He was also ranked third in the Modern Drummer readers’ poll as “Best All-Around Drummer” in 2019, behind legends such as Vinnie Colaiuta and Steve Smith.

In 2020, he was considered for a Grammy Award nomination in two categories thanks to his latest solo album, “The Missing Song.” In 2021, the historic instrument company Gretsch launched the Gergo Borlai signature snare drum.

In addition to being a band member and studio musician in world-class productions, collaborating with Grammy-winning artists, Borlai is also active internationally as an educator and clinician.

Among the artists he has performed and recorded with worldwide are Frank Gambale, Guthrie Govan, Gary Willis, Jimmy Haslip, Scott Kinsey, Jeff Lorber, Scott Henderson, Nathan East, Vinnie Moore, Tom Scott, Bob Mintzer, Al Di Meola, Hadrien Feraud, Yolanda Charles, Nguyen Le, and Dhafer Youssef, among many others.

Gergo is also a high-profile endorser for several major brands, including Gretsch Drums, Zildjian Cymbals, Remo Drumheads, Drum Workshop hardware, Vic Firth sticks, sE Electronics microphones, Slapklatz drum gels, and Gewa drum cases.
