From the fairy tale to the storm
In this program, the comparison unfolds entirely within the Russian and European musical universe, between delicacy and strength, evocation and impetus. Grieg’s Lyric Pieces, small gems of late Nordic Romanticism, are juxtaposed with the orchestral grace of Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty, presented here in a piano transcription. Both works reveal an interior world of images, atmospheres, and dreams.
But this dream is abruptly shattered by Prokofiev, whose Sonata No. 7, composed during the darkest years of the twentieth century, is a portrait of a torn time, where art endures amid the cracks of violence and silence. Rachmaninov closes the program with his Preludes, Op. 32, which combine the great Romantic tradition with a deeply personal, melancholic, and spiritual lyricism.
From Fairy Tale to Storm is a tale that begins with the lightness of dreams and reaches the power of passion. A thin thread unites different worlds, leaving the piano to reveal them.
