45 concerts, 70 artists from various countries, and over 15,000 attendees: the 16th edition of the Palermo Classica International Festival has come to a close on a positive note. Over the course of its three-month program, the festival transformed music into an opportunity for connection, discovery, and sharing, engaging a diverse and passionate audience.
Concluding on September 26, this edition reaffirmed Palermo Classica’s ability to span different musical genres and forge connections between artists, venues, and people. From the great symphonic repertoire to chamber music, from opera to contemporary music, from soundtracks to world music, and from jazz to symphonic rock, the Festival presented a diverse program designed to appeal to a wide range of audiences and offer a variety of listening experiences.
Two months of music, encounters, and emotions
Forty-five concerts and seventy artists from various European and non-European countries came together to create a program rich in atmosphere and charm, in which musical tradition engaged in dialogue with contemporary styles and new forms of expression.
Some of the main events were set against the backdrop of venues of great historical and scenic value, such as the Steri Monumental Complex and the Botanical Garden of Palermo. Through music, these spaces were transformed into places of participation and shared experience, offering the public an experience that united the city’s cultural heritage with the thrill of a live concert.
The Festival’s success is also reflected in the participation of the university community: over 15,000 total attendees and approximately 2,000 reservations made by students, faculty, and staff of the University of Palermo, who were able to take advantage of free or discounted admission thanks to the collaboration with the university.
This long-standing partnership with UniPa has helped expand opportunities for access to music and strengthen the dialogue between artistic production, education, and the local community. Also significant was the involvement of students and graduates from the master’s program in Musicology, who helped draft the program booklets and participated in outreach activities, as well as the participation of the UniSonus Palermo Choir in major artistic productions.
A Festival That Continues to Grow
The 16th edition reaffirmed Palermo Classica’s mission to create an inclusive cultural program capable of bringing together different repertoires, generations, and sensibilities. This project extends beyond the concert schedule; it thrives through its connection with the audience, the promotion of the venues that host it, and collaboration with local cultural organizations.
The results of this edition also serve as an incentive to continue on this path, offering opportunities for listening and connection throughout the year.
