The University of Palermo consolidates its connection with great music with Palermo Classica .
The Steri Monumental Complex hosts the ninth edition of the 2024/25 Winter Season
Fourteen events are scheduled , and for the first time, they will be held exclusively in the evocative atmosphere of the Steri Monumental Complex . This confirms the University of Palermo’s commitment to third mission activities and its goal of increasingly opening up the city to the transfer of knowledge and beauty.
From December 8, 2024, to March 9, 2025, the great composers of classical music will be celebrated through performances by internationally renowned performers who, for the occasion, will come to Palermo from various parts of the world.
“Our University,” emphasizes the Rector of the University of Palermo, Massimo Midiri , “affirms its role as a bridge between Palermo and the people of Palermo. The Steri, in particular, once again comes alive with cultural initiatives that connect the University to the city in an ongoing dialogue aimed at promoting culture and knowledge. This success will undoubtedly be confirmed this year after the impressive numbers we recorded with the summer festival. Approximately 16,000 spectators attended the event, which concluded last September. This represents a 50 percent increase over the previous year. Approximately 1,500 members of the academic community attended the concerts, demonstrating the great interest and participation of our University. What pleased me most was the presence of so many young people who, I’m sure, will continue to be passionate about the event and for whom, again this year, special discounts will be available.”
Alongside the classical repertoire featuring works by Chopin, Rachmaninov, Ravel, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky, the Winter Season program will also feature more contemporary works performed by composers such as Piazzolla, Bregovic, Peterson, and Rosenblatt.
