Mozart’s elegance meets the magic of the Botanical Gardens
There are operas that are applauded. And others that are discovered. For the first time in its history, Palermo is hosting one of the rarest and most fascinating works in Mozart’s catalogue, staged against the unique backdrop of the Botanical Gardens’ Gymnasium.
A single, fluid and sweeping act lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, written by a Mozart who was just sixteen years old but already capable of revealing extraordinary melodic and theatrical inventiveness. At the heart of the opera lies the great dilemma of Scipio Africanus: should he succumb to the seductions of Fortune or remain faithful to the virtue of Constancy?
