Sofia Vasheruk
Pianist
Sofia Vasheruk is a pianist born in Moscow into a family of musicians. She began studying piano at the Gnessin Music College at the age of 4 under Prof. A. Traub, later continuing at the Chopin Music College in Moscow with Prof. K. Knorre.
Still a student, she distinguished herself in several international competitions, reaching the semifinals of the Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition in Brussels, winning third prize at the Sigismund Thalberg International Piano Competition in Naples, and third prize at the International Piano Competition in Enschede (Netherlands). She also received the Grand Prix at the 4th André Dumortier International Piano Competition, along with several special prizes.
She won third prize at the Dutch National Piano Competition “Young Pianist Foundation” in Amsterdam, performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Noord Nederlands Orkest under Stefan Asbury at the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ.
In 2012 she completed her studies at Artez Conservatory in Enschede with Prof. M. Markov, and in 2014 graduated with a Master’s degree “cum laude.” From 2012 to 2016 she attended postgraduate studies at the Accademia Musicale di Fiesole in Italy with Prof. Elisso Virsaladze.
Her repertoire spans from Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin to Rachmaninoff and Debussy, reflecting her artistic sensitivity. She is also active in chamber music and solo recital performance.
In 2008 she founded the Amsterdam-based quartet Siestango, dedicated to the music of Astor Piazzolla and the exploration of tango nuevo through new arrangements and repertoire.
In 2015 she became a co-founder and artistic director of the international music foundation “Music Take in” in the Netherlands, which organizes concerts combining classical music and theatre.
In 2017 she made her debut with the Russian National Orchestra under Vasily Sinaisky in Moscow. She has since continued an active concert career across Europe and has also recorded her first CD, dedicated in part to Claude Debussy.
